“This is the first picture of my daughter--a Polaroid taken by the NICU transport team before she took an ambulance ride downtown. I had unexpectedly gone into labor four days prior; bed rest and medication couldn't stop her arrival at 26 weeks. It was a fast, natural delivery--I was fully dilated, and she only weighed a kilo. The team got there just minutes before I delivered. Two hours later, she was half a city away, and I was left to listen to babies crying in the recovery rooms around me. I couldn't wait to be discharged the next morning so I could see her. The next two months were a blur of twice daily hospital visits and pumping every 3 hours around the clock, producing very little milk. She did great, though, and came home a month before her due date. She's 28 years old and thriving now. We are so very grateful for the amazing medical caregivers and science that kept her alive.⁣” ⁣ -Christine's Story ⁣ ⁣ --- ⁣ Arriving into motherhood is a process that can happen at any time.
