ZK/U FELLOW INTRODUCTION // ZAC BRU / DETROIT BUREAU OF SOUND // AUG 01 - SEP 30 2022 Detroit Bureau of Sound, aka Zac Bru, is a techno/experimental music composer and strange music evangelist. Fond of avantgarde music and loud PA systems, Zac’s work represents an ongoing fascination with sonic exploration and otherness, most often while using modular synthesizers and an amplified cactus. As one of the first Detroit-Berlin Connection residents visiting ZK/U on behalf of musicboard Berlin, Zac Bru has conducted extensive field research pertaining to techno music during his time in the city (which is to say, lots of partying). A primary focus has been gaining a deeper understanding of Detroit's "electronic mind control music” and its effect on the culture of Berlin for the past 30 years, but Zac’s inspiration is found broadly across artistic disciplines, including visual arts, architecture, and several trips to the Philharmonie to hear classical and new music. This fresh inspiration and understanding about the musical sisterhood between Detroit and Berlin will certainly have a lasting influence on Zac’s performances and musical output.
