My first HYROX was brutal and beautiful. First and foremost, doing a HYROX single is hard AF and super rewarding. I woke up that morning knowing my body wasn’t going to be the kindest to me. I recently learned that my left leg is shorter than my right leg — the joys of a hysterectomy, tilted pelvis, SI joint and mobility issues — and knew this event would aggravate every part of my back, which it did. If you know anything about me, this chronically ill baddie may move slow but I’m deliberate. Clearly I’m a litmus test and a testament that HYROX doesn’t have a time limit. My goal was 2:45:00...😂 You can try over 3 hours of a finish for me but the keyword is finished. Babes, I cried, I dissociated, I literally crawled at a point and I broke a whole nail; I still want to do it again. Thank you Liz for being such an incredible rockstar. This woman is the FCKN GOAT. She cheered my slow moving ass on from start to finish. And a huge shout out to my high energy Phoenix fave Laurel from @wildbunchdesertguides. Only she can cuss me out for forgetting to tell her I was in town and pick up this broke down, robot moving Black girl from Brooklyn opting to do a race while disabled. I love you both something fierce. I am eternally grateful for this gift of mobility, despite its limitations, and this powerful community called the HYROX community. To have an entire staff and volunteers cheer you on along the way was electrifying.
