Amid the whirlwind of people coming and then leaving for other unmissable events for the art world, the return of @artbasel to its usual place on the space-time continuum was a blast. A flurry of new productions, a lot of materiality and painting in the “young” fairs and the Swiss performance vein is increasingly evident, in the fair as well in non-institutional contexts. After the euphoria of parties, dining, and performance sessions wore off, as Eleonora Milani points out, the city was left to its more experimental territories which explore time-based media and to its institutional attempt to reify the complex cornerstones of artistic research in twentieth-century Europe.
