"Elimination Communication What is it? Like parents learn the communication method of their babies for feeding and sleeping, EC is the method of communication between baby and caregiver about their toileting needs. Often people say babies cry when they require a nappy change, and EC is just additional to that. What is EC not? It is a popular misconception that EC is potty training babies. It’s not. It is purely noticing their behaviour and cues around going to the toilet, and it’s up to the parent to assist baby to the potty or the toilet. As such, babies don’t have “accidents”; when a baby wees somewhere that isn’t the potty or desired place- that’s called a “miss”. How do you do it? EC is not all or nothing. You can do a bit of EC or you can do it all the time. There’s no pressure and it should be natural and calm. You can start anytime from birth to 12 month and beyond! We started at 7 months with Benedykt and from birth with Sylvester and Otylia. When they are tiny babies, simply placing them over the potty at nappy changes or while feeding is enough to start. Why do you do it? There are so many benefits to doing EC with you baby. You can save money on nappies, which as well is environmentally friendly. It’s more hygienic for baby rather than them wearing nappies 24/7. Doing EC might not mean facilitating early potty training, but there’s a good chance if will. In my experience Benedykt was out of nappies well before 12 months old, but Sylvester completed potty training at 21 months." 📷 @benedyktandsylvester - you explained it so well, mama! 😍 thank you for sharing with us. ▫️ top hat potty from @tinyundies! there's a potty sale going on right now, don't miss it 😎 ▫️ xx Andrea at #godiaperfree ▫️ #eliminationcommunication #pottytrained without #pottytraining #diaperfree #pottyfrombirth #stopchangingstartpottying
