From Birmingham to California - where do I even begin with this story... I’m boarding the eurostar to Paris and someone kindly offers to help me with by bag - turns out I’m sat next to him for my journey so I say hello again and take my seat next to him. We don’t speak for the most of the way and towards the end we get chatting. I ask him what he’s been doing in London and remarkably he says “I’ve been shopping for an engagement ring”. I laugh, check for candid cameras around me before explaining that I’m a jewellery designer. “No way!” he exclaims “can I get your opinion on these rings”, we look at the pieces he’s been viewing and he tells me he just loves “Art Deco design”. I smile and say “can I show you something?” - we go onto the V website and can’t believe the chances of this encounter. I scribble a design on the back of my eurostar ticket, give him my email, and say bon voyage as we arrive at Charles de Gaulle. Days later we arrange a bespoke consultation and weeks after that we have created this 3ct VVS2 emerald cut dream ring with half a carat of hand cut flared bullet diamonds either side. Last week we shipped the ring to the client’s home in Laguna beach and last night T proposed to L and she said yes! Of all the trains, of all the seats, I cannot believe we sat in these ones but I’m so glad we did - and yes I will definitely be talking to more people on trains in the future!
