I just got my first dose of the monkeypox vaccine. Shout out to the Dept of Health Staff, my Filipina Ateh that administered the shot and all the other magnificent gay sluts who homo hunger gamed and scored a vaccine appointment in NYC to protect yourselves and our community. Why does it feel like those in power haven’t learned anything from the nightmare of the past two years? We shouldn’t be here again at the epicenter of the epicenter of what could be a new pandemic. Another public health crisis that’s being negligently mismanaged by a government that cares more about profits than people. This government let 20 million doses in our national stockpile expire without replenishing them. The messaging of this has been atrocious and the harm will be long lasting. If COVID taught me anything as an Asian American it’s that the bungled messaging of MPX will make Queer people a target of more hate. We could have been prepared for this. Everyone should have access to this vaccine. We didn’t have to be back here.
