#Repost @craftspaceyouth (Post 3 of 3) Designer Hefin Jones worked with young people at @orieldavies gallery in Powys, Wales, to develop the ODG Assembly, a project that generates ideas for a different kind of gallery, accessible to young people who can make use of its spaces and resources, in a way that works for them. Three young writers aged 14-25 were commissioned to produce creative writing projects, driven by issues and themes that matter to them. Their responses – including poetry, fiction, sound pieces and recordings - connected the gallery to the areas that surround it and the young people who live there. Exploring the potential for the gallery to be a printing press, the completed projects were produced as riso printed booklets designed by @midge.press incorporating the young writers’ texts with imagery and design, housed within a publication that shares the assets, people and ideas that young people researched. We talked to Cerys Warburton, one of the young writers on the project, about the issues she wanted to talk about in her fictional story, ‘The Fox’. What issues did you want to draw attention to with your creative writing project and how did the project with ODG Gallery and Hefin Jones help you to communicate these ideas? ‘I wrote The Fox in order to draw attention to social anxiety and the struggles of finding one’s confidence. Over the course of writing my piece, I was in contact with Hefin and several others through video chat – something that, at the time, I was rather uncomfortable with. Pushing myself to meet all these fantastic people through these video chat meetings is what originally inspired the idea for The Fox, along with my own personal battles with trouble in social situations. Even after writing The Fox, going to the ODG Gallery to meet everyone in person was a big step for me. I hoped to convey, through my writing, that it is good to build up a support system of people you can trust to help you through situations that may otherwise be uncomfortable to deal with.’ (Continued in comments...)
