More than meets the eye — With women’s history month coming to a close, in partnership with @joann_stores I wanted to highlight an artist many know of, but don’t really know~ She’s a famous world renowned icon, who I learned of in high school admiring her for her painting style—but while I appreciated what I saw on the surface, I knew little about her and the stories behind her art. When I first set out to do this project, I thought I would learn about her, create a dress inspired by her style and that would be that. But after reading about her life and her art, I felt understood, and ended up so inspired, I wanted to get to know more parts of who I am. For this piece, I focused on my mom’s Filipina culture which as someone who grew up in a mixed household, raised in the US, admittedly I’ve known little about the Philippines beyond favorite foods There was only so much I could share in this video (about Frida and myself) so there may be a lot more posts & stories coming your way~ If you want to learn more about Frida, I’ve been reading her biography by Hayden Herrera and her life is so unbelievable at times it reads like a fiction. (Also if you are a big fan of Frida’s work, I would love to learn more!)
