I’m a bicycle commuter but my husband is a racer, so I asked him to connect with his teammates to gather any jerseys and cycling kits they were no longer using. A trash bag of gear sat in my studio for over a year, next to a bag of suit jackets I had deconstructed in 2021, and eventually the vision became clear: these two worlds must fuse! And thus, the result was another iteration of Business Unusual—a collection fit for the ride your bike to work crowd 🚴‍♀️ ✨ My practice is based on the zero waste methodology, the ethics of sustainability, and relentless labor. The successful conclusion of any collection is the utilization of all the materials I began with—including the last little scraps and seams. I work with what I have, what I find, what I’m given. Right now there’s a through-line between collections of ruffles, volume, and my signature pleated trim, but that could change—and even collection to collection those elements take on different qualities because the color palette is always mutating.
