Got back from Iceland last night and spent the rest of the day relaxing since I attempted to beat jet lag by working the entirety of the 8 hour flight back home. I finished this session for Tim and Brea so they could show their families tonight at their reception in Kansas City. After I sent the gallery to them I received a text from Brea saying that they couldn’t wait to look back at these in 30 years and remember exactly how they felt in that moment. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time posing them when I was there because I wanted everything to seem genuine. I wanted the photos to tell a true story of the day, and how we woke up at 5:30 in the morning to get ready before doing their first look at 7am. The weather was shit, it was raining in so many different directions. Brea was soaked from the rain and went without a jacket for most of the day, but trooping along because she was just so stoked for this day. The drive to the vow exchange was so special, and I remember when we parked seeing both their smiles as Tim helped Brea out of the car. I watched them hike in their wedding outfits up a canyon to a spot next to a long line of water falls. They then held their books where they wrote their vows and began to exchange their life long commitment. I don’t cry at most weddings because I feel so desensitized, but this one hit me. I felt butterflies in my stomach watching as they smiled at each other while reading, and the kiss they exchanged at the end after placing on their wedding rings. Truly, this day was story book; something no one can fake. I hope so much these photos tell a story of who they are and the kind of love they have together.
