✨ T!C's team recap on fave Chinatown Arts Festival moments... - - - - - - 💃 Beautiful weather and excellent company -- I couldn't have asked for a better day to be reintroduced to traditional Chinese dance! Several friends and I spent a memorable afternoon with Ling Tang (@ling.dance) at Pier 35 (@pier35nyc), observing and exploring Chinese dance. Ling is a NYC-based dance artist with professional training in traditional Chinese and contemporary dance. With the New York City skyline as a backdrop, she performed two traditional Chinese dance pieces, a fan dance and a ribbon dance. 💫 Following her performance, she invited us to learn the basic steps and hand gestures that are integral parts of traditional Chinese dance. While none of us achieved the graceful style that Ling exhibited during her performance, we certainly had a lot of fun moving together. Though it's been years since I studied traditional Chinese dance, it certainly brought back fond memories of attending Sunday dance classes at New York Chinese Cultural Center. As an adoptee from China, I was taken back to my roots, from which I'd been somewhat removed since middle school.
