!!️My biggest tips for darkening extensions 🫢 • When going dark more then two levels don’t be afraid of the gold! 🙌🏻 Half of the formula for our lowlight was gold and even copper based to help fill that hair and replace all the pigment that is missing. • remember the underlying pigments for the levels you are skipping. We brought her extensions from a level 10 to a level 5. So we had to add in all of the pigments that are missing from the levels in between. Yellow, orange and even some red! You can add these tones into your formula or break it up into two separate steps. I did both here! • it’s okay to use two different kinds of color. For her melt and lowlights I used @kenraprofessional cream Demi line. Then to keep some dimension I used two separate @shades_eq gloss formulas (a fill then a targeted shade) •when formulating for the color on the ends, I usually will go a shade lighter. Extension ends love to soak up color and go darker then we want them too, especially if they are not new! It’s always better for it to be slightly too light, and you tone it again, then it being way to dark and trying to remove the color after the fact 😬 . . . After her color I topped it off with @mastersofbalayage Tape-in extensions in the shade Sunlit Trails to give her that beautiful face-framing highlight that reached through the lengths of her hair! .
