Often, victims of the troubled teen industry bond and form relationships within the facility to get through the trauma together and to find a source of love and happiness. Staff are typically against these non-heterosexual relationships, especially if the facility is religious. When these relationships occur, some facilities will attempt to “pray the gay away.” Guilting someone for their sexuality is not acceptable behavior, especially from therapists.
