ZERO صفر a 24-hr international online radio broadcast marathon on Numeracy Narratives for Urban Resilience Cairo Egypt & COP27 NOV 10 8am-8pm London / 10am-10pm Cairo NOV 11 8am-8pm London / 10am-10pm Cairo Listen live at spatialradio.live and radioee.net ZERO, a 24 hour live online radio broadcast on numeracy produced in collaboration between spatialradio.live (Central Saint Martins MA Narrative Environments and MA Cities), Ain Shams University Smart & Sustainable Cities Lab (SFCL) and Radioee.net. ZERO is a 24-hr online broadcast and podcast exploring what might, should, and could get counted in order to address climate change as a planetary phenomenon. Many creative fields address maths and science as forms of reduction or violence, but the tools of counting, data and measurement are more critical than ever to contend with the crises we face. Through conversation, sound, and music, Zero explores the role of calculation and computation in developing a plan for surviving the contemporary climate crisis. The project is funded by The British Council as part of its Egypt-UK Climate Change grants programme. ZERO focuses on the next generations of the future in the conversation at COP27, which is typically dominated by adult leaders. Student leaders will address decarbonisation and urban resilience approaches by universities, communities, governments and businesses, across architecture and urban landscapes. The show will be hosted from both Cairo and London, and broadcast in Arabic, English, and Spanish. The broadcast is led by Central Saint Martins’ Spatial Radio in collaboration with Radio Espacio Estacion, a nomadic online translingual station. The show will launch a new channel at Ain Shams University, sharing the tools of dialogue, listening, and radio technologies with local students and youth.
