Don't let vacation -time plastic give our planet a holiday hangover 🕵🏻♀️🤢
Do not forget your plastic-free promises when you go on vacation , even if it’s not easy as not everywhere in the world has the same awareness or passion for plastic elimination 😎🌀 small changes can also provide an opportunity to see your holiday destination in a new way, whether that's participating in a beach cleanup project, discovering countries which have banned single-use plastics, or even learning how to say "No straw, please" in the local language.
During these holidays I also learned to recognize the different kind of plastics
🤓🤓🤓🤓
Flip any plastic product or package over and you’re sure to find a small symbol imprinted into the plastic: three chasing arrows often encircling a number. ♻️♻️♻️It’s an important symbol and yet most of us have never thought much about it. If we have, we’ve most likely had a thought somewhere along the lines of — “Oh good, the recycling symbol” — and then tossed the item into our recycling bins. But the truth is, the plastic recycling symbol on the bottom of our products and packaging tells us so much more than whether an item can be recycled or not.
And FYI: Just because a product has the chasing arrows symbol, doesn't mean it's recyclable.
To summarize, plastics in categories #2, #4 and #5 are generally considered safe. Be weary of putting them in the microwave, even if they are labeled “microwave-safe”. Plastics #1, #3, #6 and #7 should be used with varying to extreme caution, especially around food or drink.
But 7 PLa is the compostable one , made from sugar or starch 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻So what are you supposed to do? Given the difficulty of recycling plastic, a lot of environmentalists say it’s best to avoid disposable plastic altogether when possible
Like in the last pick : an upcycled jar with a pasta straw for your drink 🫵🏼😻
