Should we share the good news or the other news first? šŸ‚ Let's start with the good. Happy first day of fall! As the sun rose over Bristlecone Point, the first blushes of yellow were visible in the leaves of quaking aspen along Navajo Loop. Low clouds lay gathered at the park's eastern edge, final remnants of yesterday's persistent fog and heavy precipitation. The park received 1.92 inches of rain yesterday, placing eighth in the top ten single-day rainfall records for the park. 🚧 Now for the other news. This heavy rainfall has caused washouts, retaining wall collapses, and at least one treefall along park trails. Washouts and unsafe conditions along the Wall Street side of Navajo Loop have necessitated a temporary closure of this section of trail. We will post updates on this and any other potentially affected trails as soon as they're available. āœ… At this time the Two Bridges side of Navajo Loop and all other previously open trails in the park remain open. Though many sections should dry quickly in the warm sunny days ahead, hikers should be prepared for the likelihood of mud and small washouts on all park trails.
