New York, Paris, London, and Milan account for approximately 487 shows during the Fashion Month calendar. I was doing the research this morning & I'm filled with fascination wondering exactly *how many* pieces were produced altogether for these shows and how many of these items produced had any substance, culturally and aesthetically. Rachel Tashjian (@theprophetpizza) asked today, "What is the purpose of a fashion gimmick?" She then expanded on this question in a poignant article for Harper's Baazar. The fashion gimmick central to her argument? Coperni's SS23 Fabrican spray-on dress. Tashjian's impressionable piece was refreshing not only because she provided a rare critique in fashion (I say rare because fashion has become a camp of "yes-people") but because it explores so many ideas central to the business of fashion: our rate of consumption (see Moncler's 1,952 models in puffers), the lack of creativity some designers are showcasing (3 tank & cargo trousers looks at Coperni), our views of women, and the role of the fashion critic. Now I ask you. Is it fashion's role to make us think? Are these runway moments a product of our own desire to be amused 24/7? And most importantly, are we buying any of it? Thanks @theprophetpizza for the Sunday spiral, her article in the IG stories. [In order: Bella Hadid at Coperni SS23, Coperni SS23 looks; Gucci SS23 twins; Moncler Duomo presentation; Jeremy Scott SS23 looks; Puppets & Puppets SS23; Area SS23] 👋🏽👨🏽💻 📚 #pechugavintage
