Today is World Atopic Eczema Day! . As someone who’s suffered with severe eczema all her life (literally since two weeks old), I can tell you it’s HAAARRRDDD! Not just because you look different and get questions constantly, but also mentally and God damn physically 😩😩😩 it’s like an itch everywhere that no matter how much you scratch, just never goes away! And the problem with itching/scratching it is that all it does it make it worse and can even get septic (i.e you get infections) then you’re left with scars for the rest of your life. As a kid my hand would constantly be slapped to stop myself from scratching but if any of you have had ANY degree of eczema you know that that’s just not possible! You just haaaaave to scratch it! . As an adult I’ll say my eczema is like 90% better than what it was when I was a child, it used to be absolutely horrible...to the point where that’s all I was known for. We’d for family gatherings and the first question I get asked was ‘how’s your eczema doing?’ or my grandfather (bless his heart, I love him so so much) would have a tradition where everytime we met he’d ask me to pull up my sleeves so he could see how my eczema was doing then pat me on my head to bless me 🥺 . The photos you see here were taken about 2 months ago while I was having a flare up and Alhamdulillah my face is doing much better at the moment. But the thing with eczema is that it doesn’t just affect the face, that’s all YOU get to see. My eczema affects my entire body which can get extremely uncomfortable so this is just a post for awareness, the whole point of World Atopic Eczema Day. . Anyway, all this is to say...you’re not alone if you’re going through something similar coz I know how lonely it can feel 💔 . I pray that one day there’ll be a cure for ALL auto-immune diseases but until that day, let’s just try and do our best and be there for each other and create support systems. I’ve also decided I’ll try to share more about what I’ve learnt over the years to help whoever they can if you’d be interested in that. .
