From last night’s world premiere of “A Singer’s Stages of Grief”, a five-part song cycle I composed for voice and piano, commissioned and set to text by Lena Lofquist (@lofquist.soprano), and performed by Lena and Kevin Lubin, piano (@baroque.bitch). Each piece from this set was directly inspired by Lena’s text and deeply personal story. I feel really honored that Lena trusted me to set her text to music and include it in her graduating master’s recital along with works by Schubert, Poulenc, Weill, Strozzi, Satie (and Ronstadt!!). Congrats to Lena and Kevin on an absolutely gorgeous program!
