(Español👇🏽) Today and tomorrow mark two detrimental events for nature. During Thanksgiving and “Black Friday” we increase our waste production by over 25%. From edible food going to landfills after Thanksgiving (instead of being donated or composted) to over 80% of products (including their packaging) being thrown away by consumers after Black Friday. I understand that many of us wait for this date to take advantage of the sales but these discounts have also pushed us to become a society that consumes much more than it needs. This consumption pattern is sadly fueled by compulsive behaviors instead of rational and conscious thinking. If we truly want to transform the future of our world, our habits need to change. ♻️So, tomorrow, before you go on a crazy shopping spree, please ask yourself: 1. Why do I need it? 2. Can I live without it? 3. If I really need it, what will I do with it once it reaches its end-of-life cycle? Can it be recycled, upcycled, composted? 4. Is there, instead, a small brand that has nature and human rights in mind which I can support? 5. Is my purchase having a positive ripple effect or am I simply supporting the same big companies that keep putting their profits over our people and planet? 💻 And for my online shoppers, here’s a helpful tip: Leave the items in your cart for 24hrs. If in those 24hrs you managed to go on with your day without those products, well... you don’t really need them! Think about it! And let’s begin embracing gratitude fully. Look around you. Your family, loved ones, nature.
