When you find yourself asking the classic @davidgoggins question: “Who is going to carry the boats!??” People have a bajillion opinions about running with a weighted vest. I don’t really care what they are. For me, I have goals to conquer more 100 to 300-mile runs (I’m sure longer one day... 😜), training with a 20 lbs vest has always been something I sprinkle into my build. My thoughts when wearing it are to run slow and steady, to think about form and how my body is taking the impact with each step, and then feeling how I can optimize this effort by using bigger muscles in my legs to do more of the work. I feel like this helps mimic what your body might feel like when your legs are deep into a monster long effort, and therefore a mental sharpening tool too. The moral of the story: train in a way that works for you, a way that keeps you stimulated and excited about the sport. If you find that method isn’t serving you, learn from it and pivot.
