My friends, I did not win the election for Mayor of #Brampton on Monday night. Even though this is not the result we wanted, in a democracy, the people are never wrong. I want to thank everyone who did vote for me. Over 7,000 of you. Thank you for showing your support in my bid for Mayor. I came to #Canada over 30 years ago. I did not speak the language. I did not have any money. I did not practice the common religion, and I did not know the culture. But Canada gave me a chance. This country gave me the opportunity to start a family, to build my business, and even - to run for public office in my home city. During my campaign I was never threatened, there was no violence, and aside from a few broken signs, my opponents never played any dirty tricks. We are very lucky to live in Canada. We are very lucky to live in Brampton. Even if our city government is not perfect, our basic democratic system is still the best system in the world. All it needs to work a bit better IS YOU. I hope my videos brought a few smiles and laughs to you during the campaign. And I hope all the people who got a taste of Brampton politics from my videos will continue to participate in our system.
