I’ve always had it in my mind and in my heart to be a part of the farming community in my practice as a chef and even more so to be connected to Black farmers. I always knew that it would be a challenge. It was when I first began to realize Honeysuckle that Imet my friend and my brother @chefbjdennis . I came to Charleston during a trip south with nothing, and with a trusted introduction by @blackculinary I met someone who has had the most significant impact on me in my life and career as a steward of black culture and foodways. What transpired during that trip is a long story but ever since I’ve learned so much and developed a bond that cannot be broken. BJ has been in service to the culture and his community before it was cool to be. I learned how to support farmers and the hard work it involves. I’ve learned about heritage ingredients and heirlooms and so much more. We are also sharing the most special and important thing in our lives together, fatherhood. I’m proud to call you family. Please follow his work if you aren’t familiar. Peace brother, love you man.
