***Attention Survivors and Allies*** WE NEED YOUR HELP! In January 2022, an unidentified student died in Maple Lake Academy's (MLA) care due to alleged medical neglect. During the state-led investigation into MLA following this tragedy, DHS discovered that another student had allegedly not been given proper medical care following a head injury. Furthermore, it was revealed another student allegedly was forced to live on a mattress in a common area as punishment at Maple Lake Academy for Boys. They were issued a warning for this human rights violation regarding the male student, but when the investigators returned to the program, the student was still on this mattress. MLA had its license revoked due to the findings in the DHS investigation. Despite the findings, MLA has been recently granted a stay and has been allowed to reopen and continue its program, pending a hearing on August 15-16, 2022. We demand that MLA survivors’ voices be heard. We won’t be silenced until Maple Lake Academy is stripped of its ability to continue the mistreatment of children in their care.
