This is a mechanical bank from the late 19th/early 20th century. It is in blackface, it’s lips are red, it’s mouth is wide and maddeningly happy, it is wearing a bellhops or servants uniform. If you press the lever over the back of its left shoulder, it’s right hand throws American currency into its mouth while its eyes roll back to the whites in gross satisfaction. @cybillestaude and I found this little piece of Americana while taking a brief break from capitalism. It was in an antique store in a predominantly white town in the liberal state of New York. The background is an American sunset. 🇺🇸 #july4th
