While the Wall Street side of Navajo Loop was the only trail damaged to the point of closure by Wednesday's flooding event, few trails escaped some amount of reshaping and erosion. As always, hikers heading below the rim should wear footwear appropriate for loose rocks, steep trails, and potential mud. Those visiting in the coming weeks should expect trails made uneven in areas by debris flows, rock slides, and incisions into the trail surface. 🥾 Queen's Garden: A few debris slides with unstable footing and two retaining wall failures. 🥾 Peekaboo Loop: Numerous debris flows and points of trail surface erosion. Crews will be focusing on this trail early next week to allow horse use to resume. 🥾 Bryce Point Peekaboo Connecting Trail: Numerous rockfalls and debris flows. Two retaining wall failures. Deep incisions (~1 foot) into the trail surface. 🥾 Fairyland Loop: Washouts at some of the drainage crossings. 🥾 Tropic Trail: Deep incisions (~1 foot) into the trail surface. 🥾 Navajo Loop: A tree was removed from the Two Bridges side, but conditions are otherwise stable. We do not yet have an estimate for the reopening of the Wall Street side of Navajo Loop, which was impacted by debris flows and complete trail erosion in some sections. Geologic time most certainly includes now--especially for the fragile mudstones, siltstones, and limestones of the park's Claron formation. We'll continue to share updates on conditions as they become available. Stay up to date on current trail access at the link in our bio (click the Alerts icon). NPS Photo (pd)
