*sound on* PERSEVERANCE. “Continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.” This word not only describes 2020 but also the trauma that has occurred in my life. I grew up on a horse farm & had a successful career in the equestrian world but on March 17th, 2012 my life was drastically changed, unfortunately not for the better. On this day, I was kicked in the face by my horse. After a shattered skull, brain surgery, & reconstructive surgery, my self confidence & mental health took a huge decline. Through my ambitions, family, persistence, & strength, I have managed to defy all odds. Despite my accident, I stayed resilient & managed to persevere. A few years after my traumatic brain injury, I got into fitness & the gym helped escape all of the insecurities & trauma that followed me. To this day, the gym is my escape, but it also brings me happiness to better myself & continue to improve & never give up. I transformed into someone I never thought I could be after this, mentally & physically, & I will never look back. 2020 has not only tested my strength but others as well. Not knowing if you are going to survive & looking death straight in the face puts a new perspective to life & I aim to inspire other women to gain confidence & keep pushing forward. To see how far I have come is extraordinary, not only have I surprised myself but others as well. However, I was left with an everlasting disorder & severe migraines that will follow me for the rest of my life. PTSD has taken over a large part of my life causing my anxiety, depression, & body image issues. The goal is to persevere during hard times & continue to get stronger every single day. This has molded me into the person I am today & I will use these lessons to push others around me to better themselves.
