Real things I said in therapy this week: 1. Different doesn’t automatically mean bad. → This helps reframe fear of change or the unknown, reminding clients that discomfort isn’t always danger, or a bad thing. 2. You’re human — of course you’re feeling that way. Mixed emotions make sense. → Validating emotions reduces shame and opens the door for self-compassion and curiosity instead of judgment. 3. What if I told you it’s completely normal to question things sometimes? → Normalizing doubt helps ease anxiety and allows space for exploration without labeling it as failure. 4. What might it feel like to take some of that pressure off yourself? → Inviting reflection in this way can shift someone from self-criticism into possibility — it creates breathing room. And why put so much pressure on yourself? 5. Which thoughts are keeping you stuck right now? → This brings awareness to unhelpful thought patterns, a key first step in changing them using CBT techniques. 6. And if that did happen... would you be okay? → Facing the feared outcome often reveals inner strength, resilience, or practical steps for coping — not catastrophe. Common themes: These are all reminders that being human is messy, and that’s okay. Growth doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from curiosity, compassion, and asking better questions. Each of these prompts invites a pause — a moment to challenge unhelpful thoughts, soften self-judgment, and remember that discomfort isn’t something to fear. In different ways, they all create space: space to feel, to question, to shift, and most importantly — to be kinder to yourself in the process. Which resonated with you today?
