Anna Terrazas shares her inspirations behind #costumedesign for the much-anticipated film, “Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.” “Stemming from Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s script, which is so complex and oneiric, I first thought about ways in which to put on the screen the world that unfolded throughout the pages. Many things came to mind, but I arrived at the conclusion that we didn ́t have to constrict ourselves to a specific time period but instead do a mixture, a melting pot, of the last forty years in order to achieve the dreamscape in which the characters navigate. Mexico is aesthetically prolific and diverse, so an important next step was to detach ourselves from such concrete reality and select colors that would represent each character and atmosphere. The darker moments in the story dictated their own tone like the mountain of corpses at the Zócalo, which contrasted acutely with the vitality of the palette used in the California Dancing Club or the television set scenes. As to the characters, in the case of Silverio, we extricated color almost completely because he, the Bardo, is contemplating the color in the world that surrounds him; Lucía is always in blue tones which we hoped would transport whoever experienced it to a realm of peace and support; Lorenzo in yellow tones to represent the effervescence of his teenage years; and Camila in greens which to connect us with the natural world and in doing so to a state of acceptance.” _ #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892
