"Winter is a season of many notions. Shelter and survival. Reflection and perseverance, and dependent on one’s location, potential reclusiveness. For runners, it can be a harsh, cruel, unceasing, and grueling season. Its volatile weather, short days, and duration berate one’s mental fortitude. During its frigid embrace, we relearn last year’s lessons on the arduous process of simply showing up. We are reminded of what it takes to remain accountable. Winter can take on a simple survive and advance viewpoint, sure, but, in the right light, in the proper frame of mind, it can also provide us with an abundance of potential. It can bring about simplification paired with worthy challenges. With fresh perspective paired with fresh tracks, it can be a season of rumination and, hopefully, growth. Limited resources and perhaps fewer distractions give us an adoration of what is available. In this calloused season, consistency triumphs over singular efforts, solitude shapes us, and the trials we seek inform us of who we plan to become."
