The Throughline: Capes
Across centuries (and on the feed of @thepouf) the cape has moved between armor and adornment, slipping easily from royal courts to couture runways, from 1970s gilded wings to midcentury Parisian minimalism. It is a shape built on contradiction—at once concealing and commanding, soft yet architectural, intimate yet theatrical.
At @marinamoscone’s New York City pop-up, the house’s cult-favorite Twisted Satin Capelet (a personal favorite) steps into this continuum. Part sculpture, part garment, it reframes the cape as a contemporary uniform—an effortless layer that transforms the simplest look into something striking.
In a city defined by reinvention, the cape endures as fashion’s sharpest punctuation. And in Moscone’s hands, it reads as both homage and evolution: bold, precise, and endlessly wearable.
