My Sweet Cody Joe, The other night when you and your mamma were walking me back to my car, after a joyful night of giggles and cuddles, you kept looking up at me as if to say “I’m here cadduh! Right beside you”. It felt like old times when you used to drag me behind you while I held on to your leash for dear life. It felt like our little mis-matched family living together again, taking on the big city. When we finally got to the car, your sweet mommy lifted you up to my level and I got to kiss your squishy little face one last time. (Snaggle teef and all) Somehow I knew it was the last time I’d get to lay my eyes on you. We said our ‘see ya later!’s and I watched you make your way home down the sidewalk. It felt like I was leaving a piece of my heart behind. Coco, you were such a little butt head. The way you would squeeze those squeaky toys all the live long day. Or when you would jump on me with your little dagger toes and leave behind polka dot bruises. Or when you would beg relentlessly for food every time I opened my mouth to take a bite. Funnily enough, these are all my favorite memories now. More than any meaningful goodbye, I really wanted to thank you. The work you did in your life was so very important and you took your job very seriously. You took such good care of your mamma. I am so grateful to you baby boy. You are your mamma’s whole world and I know that as much as you needed her, she needed you. Thank you for giving us all a little more reason to love this life. We’re gonna miss you more than you will ever understand. Don’t be a stranger🤍 P.s. please do not worry, I will be sure to bark at every skateboarder that I pass. Someone’s gotta keep those bone-heads in line!
