JUST ANOTHER LOVE SONG is mostly about how Hank and Sandy work together on their town’s biggest event, the Baileyville Street Fair. I made up/exaggerated a few details, but most of what I wrote was based on the real life Bellville Street Fair, which I got to attend this weekend for the first time in a few years. There was fried food! My mom won all the ribbons! The art show still has a “patriotic” category (which was honestly kinda sparse? If you have a great picture of a flag next year you could really clean up, just saying). Kids can enter animals they made out of produce, which are always swarming with gnats. My son rode rides, I saw friends, I ate apple rings, and it was overall a full fair experience. Not to say it was perfect. My corn dog was only OKAY and when we saw the Doobie Brothers cover band, they had an opener that played Aerosmith and then when they finally started they weren’t playing the hits. But that’s the fair for you. It gives you what you need, not what you want. I had the time of my life and it was a THRILL to be there in person again after writing about it. Until next year (when I’ll find a better corn dog stand).
