BTS with beauty @qi33k for @projectmonolids. #stopeyeshaming Captured by @jjjaaaniyu. Work in process creating an unique painterly arty look to celebrate her monolid beauty. I got questions about the looks I did for @projectmonolids. I never really knew exactly beforehand what looks to do & how a look will turn out. It’s a process where I get inspired by my model, by colors, the tools that I have, what I feel that moment & just let my creativity flow. This project comes from my heart & I loved working with each model. Although we are from different ethnicities, cultures & backgrounds. We all have something in common: our eyes. We all experienced the same insecurities about our eyes and dealt with self-hatred. For most of us, especially the ladies, growing up, we used makeup to change our eyeshape, making it look bigger, more western, creating a crease/double eyelids using different tricks. And some of us even thought about having double eyelid surgery, when we’re older. All of this, just to look less Asian & more European, just to fit in & to be accepted by our society, to not to experience racism & not being bullied for our eyeshape, to meet the Western & Asian beauty standards. This project is all about emphasizing & respecting the beauty of monolids. I loved that I didn’t try to create something which isn’t there, I loved not trying to change their eyeshape. I loved just to play with colorful makeup to celebrate our eyeshape & making my models more beautiful & unique like art. Makeup is supposed to be fun & to enhance your beauty. Makeup can do many things. But it shouldn’t be a disguise to hide your heritage. Everyone has a different perception of art, but every piece of art is unique. And that is the message that I want to give to the Monolid community. You are unique! 🎨 Embrace it, be proud and celebrate your eyes!
