I was talking to an editor friend yesterday about adapting to ever-changing social media trends (hi, reels!)—-and how uncomfortable it can be to put yourself out there. She mentioned that my health and fitness journey is something she wanted to see more of, especially as a busy working mother. I had backed off from those posts. I tried to put them in a new account, but my people are here and on FB. So I stopped posting there. Not everyone likes MLMs; I get it. But I make a little side cash helping others find sound exercise and nutrition plans. No gimmicks or quick fixes. My transformation started over 2 years ago. It’s been a work in progress. And it does take work. So here I am, posting again. If abs offend you, I politely ask you to keep scrolling. 😉 As my tween says, “It’s a stomach, Mom! Everyone has one.” 🤣
So, about the abs? I often get asked how I got them and if I spend hours working out. I do not. My current schedule is 30 mins, 4 days a week, mostly strength. That’s it! I get asked if I eat super clean. Right now, I do because I just followed a gut protocol plan and have only added back one food category so far. But usually, no. If we’ve talked about nutrition, you know I don’t like diets. I don’t like restriction. Been there, done that. It’s taken me decades to eat intuitively. Even on the GP, I followed the plan to maintain and tweaked it so it didn’t negatively affect my mindset.
It would be irresponsible of me not to acknowledge genetics, too. I don’t carry my weight in my midsection. It’s just how I’m built. So the muscles show easier here. I’ve been 25+ lbs heavier, and I still had ab definition. I’ve also been almost 20lbs thinner (it wasn’t a good look).
What works for me? A balanced diet that includes more clean choices than not (with room for the fun stuff, too), strength training (going heavier and doing combo moves that get your HR up), and some cardio (I do far less than I used to). Oh, and water. Lots of water.
If you want to know more, reach out! I’m always down to talk about health and fitness.
