September is National Literacy Month, and we want to honor the words of award-winning children’s book author, reading advocate and National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Walter Dean Myers. Myers, who had a speech impediment as a child, found reading and writing as a form of self expression. In 1962, he published his first poem and went on to become one of the most prominent Black authors of children’s book and YA novels of our time, publishing more than 80 books.
