Irene Sharaff once said, “You can acquire chic and elegance, but style itself is a rare thing.” Sharaff was an Armenian costume designer born in Boston whose work continues to be celebrated in Hollywood and Broadway to this day. Over the course of her more than half-a-century-long career, she received 16 Oscar nominations, the first TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award and won Academy Awards for films including, “West Side Story,” “Cleopatra,” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” She’s designed costumes for nearly 20 ballets, and even created the sunflower yellow chiffon wedding dress that Elizabeth Taylor wore in her first marriage to Richard Burton. Presently, her great-nephew Mika Sharafyan is a CDG member. _ #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 #CDGHeritage
