We dreamed of an impossibly curvaceous and sculptural stone number with a verdant backdrop. The client dreamed of something more in the realm of a Donald Judd piece but was open to our musings. Initial ideas included a base constructed of fluted marble, but when we discovered there were no footings holding up the house (and therefore needed no less than 34.75 hours of the builder’s time planning, sketching and constructing flooring support without the guarantee of no cracks appearing), we ultimately landed on a more lightweight solution with the softness of Venetian plaster allowing the boldness of the Calacutta Vagli top to shine. ⁠ ⁠ Granted it still took about 34.75 hours of collaboration between ourselves, @granitemarbleworks, @bellevardeconstructions and @jonathan_a_west to refine the curves, detail the brass footrail with as less visible supports as possible, and select the best part of the slab to cut - we must admit we’re pretty thrilled about the understated elegance that is Lady M’s heart and soul.
