This cover story for @zeitmagazin felt as different to shoot as it feels to post. It felt transformative and magic. James, pictured, messaged me upon its release last week stating “this is the first fashion story focused on plus sized men in high fashion for the first time in the entire world. Wow.” I haven’t shot a lot of editorial this year as I believe that, unless it’s contributing to a better, more progressive industry, what is the point. When @norahollstein got in touch with the catalyst idea of a story oriented around plus-sized men, I jumped on it. I’m so grateful for the editors freedom and encouragement upon allowing me to take the reigns of its creative direction. They were a real treat to work with. It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot: where are the plus-sized, curvy men alongside the curvy women fashion has recently created space for? Big men seem to be one of the last taboos of the fashion world, something left behind in the frenzy of wokeness. I hope this shoot will not be the only one of its kind for long, and more designers will begin to deeply examine the systemic affect of unforgivably small sample sizes. As that is the source of the change: if you make the clothes, we will put all shapes and sizes in them.
