Pencil grasp hack! Before you buy the dozens of products out there to help kids hold their pencil correctly, give this simple hack a try! This hack, plus using small pencils or broken crayons, and me verbally correcting a incorrect grip whenever I saw one, is what has helped my kiddos. But to be completely honest, I never really thought about pencil grasp before I had kids. Frankly, I never learned to hold my own pencil properly, and my writing looks just fine to me 😆 (especially in a world full of computers!). And there are plenty of successful writers who don’t write “correctly” (google: Taylor Swift pencil grip). That being said, I have learned from teachers about the importance of the tripod grasp - that a good grasp ultimately results in better movement so that kids write more clearly without getting tired fast.
