Intentionally sharing this backstory as I take the subway to the first of a handful Climate Week NYC ♻️ events that I’m attending this week. The Vogue article I mention in the video was published when I was only 2.5 months into my career in fashion and at a time when I was just testing out this industry. The night the article was published, I told myself that I was going to become the best fashion designer I could be, in whatever way that meant to me and even more so a designer that considered the immense & irreversible impacts the fashion industry and it’s systems create for the environment & the earth. I’ve definitely gone down the rabbit hole of guilt and the thought that maybe I should find another art form but I recently heard a quote from @marahoffman, “Do not make another thing unless it is part of a solution.”
I hope Here’s To You (@herestoyou_h2y) is not only the solution for people to say to themselves as a me-to-me statement when deciding between fulfillment and practicality but also in the intention and care for sustainable and ethical practices in design ♻️
As of this month I am now 2.5 years into working in fashion and fortunate to have launched H2Y last month. I’m excited to eventually be 25 years into this gig loving sewing & designing as much as I do now.
the biggest thank you to @chrisjallaire for this mention in the article! Also @apstudiobk & @millerpyke for this podcast to share this story - listen to the full episode for more info on my sustainability journey and more!
