Our endless research journey in uncovering the hidden gems and infinite secrets of African textiles and fibers continues in Agbozume Volta region where Kete (not to be confused with Kente or Chinchini) is handwoven woven by our team of artisanal Ewe weavers. Kete is the traditional Ewe woven cloth typically woven by Ewe people.
Kete cloth is usually woven by men and smaller in it’s width than the expansive width of Chinchini but similar to Kente cloth woven by the Ashanti people. However, Kete can be differentiated by its patterns from Kente or Chinchini cloth which is typically woven by the women of the Dagomba people.
The Ewes historically originated in Nigeria and migrated in the late 17th century to Benin, Togo and further into Ghana.
