I wanted to wait a few days after Louie Anderson’s passing to post this remembrance. I photographed Louie in 2017. I was excited for the shoot as I’d grown up watching his cartoon ‘Life with Louie’ as a kid. He arrived wearing an oversized black blazer that was big even on him. During the shoot, Louie fell and hurt his foot. He ended up being fine but we had to help him onto a chair and I could tell he was a little embarrassed. It took the air out of the room but Louie insisted we keep shooting. Over the next 10 minutes, he opened himself up to me, using his raw talent to bring himself to tears at one point - but it was all for the camera. He was communicating to me without words: “it’s ok.” He was giving me a gift to reassure me, when he was the one who probably needed the reassuring. It remains to this day one of the most special moments I’ve had taking somebodies portrait. Thank you for your generosity Louie and thank you for being you, Rest in Peace. #louieanderson
