Hair Myths Part ✌🏻 ⠀ Myth: Chlorine turns hair green. 🗽You know the Statue of Liberty is green, right? Well, it wasn’t always. The statue actually has a copper exterior. When it was new, it was coppery and shiny. But after years of exposure to sea water and the elements, the copper oxidized and gained its famous green patina. The same thing happens when copper is present in pool water. It oxidizes, and can turn certain things—the walls, the floor, YOUR HAIR—green. 💚 🥥Myth: Coconut Oil is good for you hair. Before I get into the science of this... what happens when you cook with coconut oil? The smoke point of virgin coconut oil is 350°F. JUST let that settle in...really.... has it marinated yet? What temp are you using your flat iron? So you’re basically cooking your hair when remnants of coconut oils remains. Coconut oil is a coating can cause protein build, blocking your hair from all of the masks you’ve been applying on your hair. It may feel smooth and soft but underneath that coating, your hair is suffering. What’s your two cents on this?🥥 ⠀ Myth: Purple Shampoo makes you blonder. While purple shampoo creates ashier tones, this only works on previously lightened hair at a level 9 or 10. (Think inside of a banana 🍌) If your hair is the color of the banana peel, you can actually make your hair look deeper and that statement goes for all colors. Think about a car tint. If you put a purple tint on top of a tint and 3 more tints on top of that?? Follow me here.. You’ll have super dark tint and hardly see inside the window. Well same for purple shampoo. If you over purple your hair will look dark and dull.
