Memoire Temporelle I wrote a poem titled Free Bird when I was 13 years old it was published in the Newham Recorder In 1998 Hurricane Mitch hit Honduras and I flew in to cover the devastation for The Observer - the book in my jacket was “ I know why the caged bird sings” by Maya Angelou As I worked across the state of Maharashtra reporting on the impact of HIV in India , I was with Sharmila Tagore Who introduced me to the poems of Rabindranath Tagore One was The Tamed Bird in Cage. It’s probably the one that resonates most in my life The serendipities or the life foretold The Memories we carry hold and thread through our lives in the most beautiful of ways
