Remembering #IsseyMiyake (1938-2022). Born in Hiroshima, he studied in Tokyo and Paris before cutting patterns for Hubert de Givenchy. Miyake’s deft, architectural approach to fashion was countered by his playful and performative engagement with pop culture, dance, fine art and, of course, perfume. He revolutionized the Fortuny pleating technique for new generations of women, made turtlenecks for Steve Jobs, and promoted the world of Japanese arts and crafts around the world through his curatorial work bridging fashion and art. Pictured: Shalom Harlow wears an Issey Miyake dress printed with an Ingrès-inspired artwork by #YasumasaMorimura and photographed by #IrvingPenn, 1997.
