Replying to @Lyssa Reptile Keeper Here’s how I set up temporary quarantine enclosures for my reptiles when needed! 🏥 Quarantine enclosure set ups are a critical part of reptile keeping. There are two main reasons to do a quarantine set up like this: 1) When bringing home a new pet reptile. 🐍🐢🦎 EVERY time you bring a new animal into your home, you are risking your well-established and healthy animals’ well-being. Reptiles can often carry many invisible diseases, mites, parasites, bacteria, etc. that can spread to others and can decimate entire families or “collections” (hate that word but it fits here). Having a quarantine process in place for new animals is KEY to maintaining your animals’ health. When I bring home a new pet, I set them up in an enclosure just like this and keep them in a completely different room or area of the home, FULLY separated from my other healthy animals, for about 60-90 days until I’ve confirmed with absolute certainty that the new animal is 100% healthy and mite-free. 💚 2) Illness or injury. 🤕 If you ever notice any potential illness or health concerns in one of your reptiles, it’s important to set them up in a basic, sterile environment like this so you can fully evaluate their health and monitor their feedings, pooping, etc. with ease. AND you want to separate them from your other pets to mitigate any risk or illnesses that could spread. If your pet gets injured, this is also a great way to ensure they heal properly without any risk of infection or irritation from substrate or anything like that. When my crested gecko dropped his tail, I immediately put him into a temporary set up like this until his tail wound healed up! My leopard gecko, Charlie, is currently in this one (for less than a week) while he quickly heals from having an impacted hemipene.🦎 Hope this helps explain the necessity of quarantining your reptiles. 🤗💚 #quarantine #reptilequarantine #reptilekeeping #reptilecaretips #reptilecare #vetcare #sickreptile #sickpet #sickgecko #sicksnake #reptilekeeperlife #reptilekeepers
