Act III: Battle is out now. Our album, American Bollywood, is broken up into four acts: We've been through the origin stories, then the exiles, and now we've arrived at the battle. In the Indian mythology, the Mahabharatha, the Pandavas return to their home kingdom after over a decade in exile to reclaim their right to the throne. But once they arrived, a battle awaited. The music in Act III activates that fighting spirit - the one that the Pandavas needed in that moment. Arriving to the destination was always going to be the easy part. War contains a multitude of these battle fronts. To us, this act is about finding ways to fight all those fights that permeate our daily lives. There’s the internal battle with the voice in your head that says you’re not worth it. There’s the external battle of establishing identity. For us, that meant reclaiming control of our music and narrative as artists and becoming arbiters of our own destinies. There are fights over wealth and security, as we’re pitted against each other to claw for our slice of the algorithmic attention pie. We’re at war over truth because as we all know, the victors write the history. There’s battles over culture: fighting to be seen in nations that do not fully recognize you. And these battles are everywhere. In Iran right now, battles over free expression rage in the streets. Many of Payam and his wife’s friends and family are living and fighting those at this very moment. These battles are personal to us, but everyone faces their own battles.
