Safie, my second cat from Mexicali, México: - I came across your beautiful face on a "free kittens" Facebook group (second photo) - Tachi (being the spoiled cat he is) needed a friend for when I went back to the office "in person" in September 2021, I thought - I couldn't pick you up, so my niece @haydeedude did and took care of you for 3 weeks patiently and lovingly as you were sick - It was a stressful initial months because we didn't know how to help you despite many efforts (my niece and I have soft hearts and cried over our inability to heal her as she underwent several long treatments) - You've put up with four Mexican vets, three US vets, and one US vet ophthalmologist... and weeks of medication and 5 months straight of daily eyedrops, sometimes 8x/day 😖 - One of such vets told me to stop wasting my time, that your infected eye would "simply turn blind" 😡 - But you pulled through and healed, for the most part (herpes flare-ups will continue to be part of her life) - As a result of this early experience, you're not a lap cat but a shoulder one (literally: you can go up and down the stairs with her on your shoulders) - You like to be on your feet, ready to escape if it looks like you're getting eyedrops again (I'm sorry 😭) - Yet you're sweet, loving, independent (as opposed to needy Tachi), and playful - You like to high five me, play fetch like a dog, enjoy water splashing, and run fast, which is why I call you "horseee" - You're also talkative and do request play time... audibly 🤣 - And if it isn't obvious, I love you, mi Safie 💕
